Turntable Lab 04 New Drops

Natural Born Bushwick Bill and Slick Rick $34

Damn me if this isn' t the most clever hip-hop shirt evah. Notice the one "i" is missing in "Bushwick Bill?" Read the small print and it says "with only one i." Then you remember that Bushwick only has one "eye." Ureco!... expand review Same theme is printed on the back, this time using hip-hop's other one-eyed bandit, Slick Rick.... bravo!

Bodega Shirt $34

It's rare that a shirt can introduce you to a new world. "La Bodega Sold Dreams" is a book written by Puerto Rican playwright Miguel Pinero. Pinero was a giant in NYC's cultural history. While doing time in Sing-Sing, Pinero wrote the play Short Eyes, which went on to win six Tony Awards as well as an award for best play of the year. He went on to become one of the founders of the legendary Nuyorican Poets Cafe, acted in films, wrote more plays and books, and even wrote an episode of Miami Vice (ha.). This beautifully designed shirt features a analytical synopsis of "La Bodega" on the back. Standard fit.

Sopranos Ending and HBO New Beginning

I don't think anyone believed it would ever happen or didn't want to make themselves think it would happen but its OVER. There were many overtones of politics, superstition, death, life and the search involved in the finale leaving us hanging on a cliff like Sylvester Stallone. I personally enjoyed the ending unlike 90% of the people I have spoken to about the episode. Not sure as the the whole Meadow parking issue but AJ obviously gave into his need of material things. Anyway, Here is a blog with some intersting thoughts on the finale and we will probably never know the meaning of the ending, unless of course you bed David Chase the creator.

John fron Cincinatti:

On a lighter note, I felt like the premiere of "John from Cincinatti" was a sizzler. It appears to be a show very likely of a hit due to the writing, scenery, actors a person with a huge drug addiction and such.

Synapsis:

On the shores of a rundown coastal town, a lonely figure is surfing: Mitch Yost, patriarch of a legendary surfing clan. He's watched by two men: Linc, a surf entrepreneur looking to sponsor Mitch's 13-year-old grandson Shaun; and a young stranger. Later, Mitch rinses off by his station wagon--and levitates. Meanwhile, a haunted veteran named Vietnam Joe drives the stranger to the Snug Harbor Motel, a decrepit structure overseen by Ramon, the Mexican caretaker. The motel has recently been sold to a lottery winner named Barry Cunningham, who plans to demolish it. But Snug Harbor has one holdout tenant: Butchie Yost, Shaun's father and son of Mitch, once a great surfer in his own right but now a drug-addicted derelict. After mistaking the stranger for a drug contact, Butchie learns that the youth's name is John--and that he has plenty of money and a platinum credit card. As Butchie heads off with John to make some purchases, Mitch's wife Cissy gets arrested for getting snippy with a megastore employee. Meanwhile, Shaun and Bill, a neurotic family friend, are detoured to Snug Harbor, where a motley scenario is unfolding. Butchie, who challenged Mitch over the phone, is now face-to-face with his irate father, but the pair's imminent clash is upstaged by Barry, who has a past with Butchie--and a gun. (TVMA) (AC,AL)

"If I ever opened a trampoline store, I don't think I'd call it Trampo-Land, because you might think it was a store for tramps, which is not the inpression we are trying to convey with our store. On the other hand, we would not prohibit tramps from browsing, or testing the trampolines, unless a tramp's gyrations seemed to be getting out of control."

AFTER DARK

After reading through my numerous mag subscriptions for the month. Too many for most but it is a neccesary evil for me. Anyway, due to reviews I will be picking up "After Dark" by Haruki Murakami. No I have not read it yet so I do not have a review nor would I provide one if I did. It is simply not fair to alter one's decision before they make their own opinion. By this the way this is about gamblers and hookers amongst other things from the author who brought us "Kafka on the Shore". Below is the synapsis.

"Murakami's 12th work of fiction is darkly entertaining and more novella than novel. Taking place over seven hours of a Tokyo night, it intercuts three loosely related stories, linked by Murakami's signature magical-realist absurd coincidences. When amateur trombonist and soon-to-be law student Tetsuya Takahashi walks into a late-night Denny's, he espies Mari Asai, 19, sitting by herself, and proceeds to talk himself back into her acquaintance. Tetsuya was once interested in plain Mari's gorgeous older sister, Eri, whom he courted, sort of, two summers previously. Murakami then cuts to Eri, asleep in what turns out to be some sort of menacing netherworld. Tetsuya leaves for overnight band practice, but soon a large, 30ish woman, Kaoru, comes into Denny's asking for Mari: Mari speaks Chinese, and Kaoru needs to speak to the Chinese prostitute who has just been badly beaten up in the nearby "love hotel" Kaoru manages. Murakami's omniscient looks at the lives of the sleeping Eri and the prostitute's assailant, a salaryman named Shirakawa, are sheer padding, but the probing, wonderfully improvisational dialogues Mari has with Tetsuya, Kaoru and a hotel worker named Korogi sustain the book until the ambiguous, mostly upbeat dénouement. MOVIES:

There are three main ones out this week: Pirates of the Caribbean, Knocked Up and Mr. Brooks. Pirates is nearly 2.5 hrs long and about the same monotonous plot as the previous versions and besides seeing the very short cameo of Keith "Coconut" Richards who has to be a friggin moron falling out of a tree, there is not much here. Johnny Depp is always a plus though. Knocked up follows the premise of what the title says featuring the new league of soon to be featuring in every movie together comedians. My choice is the new thriller featuring a fare from "Field of Dreams" and much better than the flop "The Guardian" Kevin Costner.

Synopsis.

"Earl Brooks (Kevin Costner) is a loving family man and a local business icon. But Mr. Brooks is deeply flawed and very aware of it. He is addicted to killing. Struggling with his pathology, he tries to quit, but his alter-ego, "Marshall" (William Hurt), has an altogether different idea. Detective Tracy Atwood (Demi Moore), battling with her own demons, is extremely frustrated at the lack of clues left by the mysterious killer. When Brooks is compelled to perform one last murder, he gets sloppy and is seen by a voyeuristic neighbor. Unexpectedly turned-on by what he sees, the prying neighbor, Mr. Smith (Dane Cook), has an unusual and disturbing blackmail demand. With Detective Atwood on his trail, Mr. Brooks and "Marshall" are forced to play out an increasingly elaborate game."

ARTIST OF THE WEEK:

This was a Christmas gift from Kelly to her parents. Good job Kelly, now pack up your shit and find a foster home. If my kids tried to pass this off as a gift, they'd come home from school and find all their shit outside in a box. What a lousy gift, seriously. You give them video games and toys, and they give you some half-assed drawing with a crooked tree. I wonder how much a gift like this would set someone back. Five, maybe ten minutes to find a napkin and some markers? F

Holy shit, I almost had a seizure when I saw this one. Three words: too many colors. Also, eggs aren't supposed to have ears, dipshit.F
